Birthday Book Club
The Heritage Elementary library would like to help students celebrate their birthday! All students are invited to join our Birthday Book Club for a $12 donation to the library. This donation goes toward the purchase of a new library book that BBC members get to choose to add to the library during their birthday month. A label is placed on the inside front cover of the library book with the student's name and birthday to let everyone know who to thank for adding it to our library. The birthday boy/girl will have the honor of being the first to check out their book, have their picture taken for our BBC wall, and receive something fun to take home to keep! The $12 donation may be paid by visiting the TouchBase website, by cash, or by check made payable to Heritage Elementary School.
Cool Science Investigations (CSI)
CSI (Cool Science Investigations) is a district after-school program for fourth and fifth grade students. Its purpose is to promote and reinforce science learning and principles with hands-on activities. There are three sessions during the school year where sponsors at each elementary school may use district kits (complete with lesson plans and materials) or create their own topics. District kits include Coding and Robotics, Exploring the Milky Way, Lego BricQ Motion, Lego WeDo 2.0, Paleo, Physics of Toys, Sci Oly, Simply Science, and Tel All.
Horticulture Club
In 2019, Heritage Elementary began a Horticulture Club for fifth grade students. We began the club with only six student members. In 2025, we have 19 members. We have won the Kansas City Healthy Kid's Foundation Grant two times! With that money, we have purchased a garden fence, garden tools, garden gloves, and a couple of raised garden beds. We focus on growing vegetables, fruits, and flowers, but have also grown birdhouse gourds and then painted them as birdhouses. We have made birdfeeders using pinecones, peanut butter, corn kernels (that we grew over the summer) and bird seed. We love to garden and to make our school community beautiful!
Math Wings
The purpose of our Math Wings after-school club is to provide an opportunity for all fourth and fifth grade students to learn important content and skills beyond what is provided in the classroom, and to promote the mindset that all children can learn math. Our focus is to enrich the learning for motivated, high-achieving math students and encourage all students to see that they, too, can be high-achieving math students.
Running Club
Heritage Running Club is a fun way for students to be active, socialize, and have fun. On average, this running club has 90 students who are active, engaged, and filled with positivity by their coaches who are the fabulous teachers. The running club spends time focusing on staying positive and safe to reach their goal of having fun running longer each time they get together.
